Learn to look for fossils and be saved from insects

Got up early. The day here starts at 5 and ends at 9, because of the darkness.

After Breakfast, immediately proceeded to business: today has scanned the skull of a Rhino. The skull consisted of two parts: the upper and lower jaw. Scanned in less than an hour, and since the skull could “disassemble” the scan has turned out amazingly detailed: you can look in your mouth and inspect every tooth on all sides.

Today Louis invited us to the nearest place of excavation to show how it actually works. The excavations so far nothing major is found, but will definitely find: the place is extremely gracious. Louis immediately taught us how to identify minerals by color, structure and pattern. After that, it immediately became clear what she was talking about yesterday: fossils are EVERYWHERE. Just lying on the ground: bones of animals, fish, fossil remains of trees, in large numbers.

The remains of the hippopotamus: phalanx.

While it was windy, Louis decided to make a Photomap of the area. This is done by hanging the Camera to the kite. The survey area occurs in high resolution at an altitude of about 50 meters.

Meanwhile Francisco was able to talk with local volunteers. They say that 10 years ago, their life was very different: all were very poor and lived with the only hope to ever leave the city to get work. Family Louise Leakey gave local residents the opportunity to work, to help paleontologists, to feel needed. Love them very much, and sincerely grateful for the opportunity to change your future. A new discovery of archeologists in Ivanovo

In the vicinity of yuzhsky district discovered a prehistoric people. This discovery made the archaeologists in the excavations conducted on the territory of the municipality. According to preliminary estimates of scientists finds date back to the twelfth Millennium BC.

“It’s unique for our area opening, — said in an interview with portal representatives of regional Department of culture – that found in the historic layer, is unique. Such findings cannot boast of any neighbors from Nizhny Novgorod or from Kostroma. Similar findings were, perhaps, in the Vladimir and Yaroslavl regions. But they’re long on everyone’s lips. Even this win, though, because purposefully designed cultural historical layers that are installed on territories classified as protected by Law. Public policy today is constructed in such a way as not to destroy what the earth itself has preserved the gift of the future descendants of the first man”.

The problem really exists. The so-called “black diggers” destroy whole acres of such areas in search of treasure, and all things of any value. People with metal detectors and heavy machinery turn over tons of earth to find the coin, which then POPs up in private collections. They destroy unique doistoricheskogo, ruin mounds, and just do unsuitable for further study of historical formation.

“Modern archaeology is far from treasure hunting, say participants of a scientific expedition. – In his time, two hundred years ago, our colleagues realized that the shard of crockery or a small fragment of prehistoric tools, the writing on the skins of animals are no less valuable than a bar of gold or a bowl studded with diamonds. Each found in the historical layer of the artifact carries a lot of information about who we are and where. How long and, most importantly, why live. Continue reading

On Altai scientists have found the remains of a man who lived 50 thousand years ago

On Altai scientists-paleontologists have unearthed the remains of a man who lived here about 50 thousand years ago. Loud discovery made the scientists in the cave with a frightening name “the Terrible”. The study will clarify the theory of anthropogenesis, reports Regnum referring to the press service of the Novosibirsk state University.

Previously, scientists found only implements of representatives that historical period, which gave grounds to make certain conclusions about the evolution of the first men. Discovered fossils could correct the theory of anthropogenesis, namely, to find out how interacted denisovans, Neanderthals and other humanoid beings.

Andrei Krivoshapkin from NSU says that in layers of 35-40 thousand years ago, archaeologists found part of the nail phalanx of the caveman, and the fragment of a rib and a skull, which is not less than five tens of thousands of years. Continue reading
