Odessa archaeological Museum is one of the oldest in Ukraine. It is located in a magnificent building built in the country style in the middle of the XIX century, in the heart of Odessa. Thanks to the incredibly rich collection of unique antiquities archaeological Museum is a real treasure, a priceless cultural heritage, and is among the top ten most visited sights of South Palmyra.
It began its history in 1825 as the city Museum of antiquities. The core of its collection became a private collection of ancient books and archaeological objects, which the city passed local philanthropist Ivan Blaramberh, who actively participated in the creation of the Museum. Further development required archaeological Museum of the Odessa society of history and antiquities, through which its funds have been considerably increased original artifacts of the past.
The Museum’s collection, numbering about 170 thousand exhibits, is set in ten themed rooms, located on two floors. It consists of valuable monuments of history and culture of the Northern black sea, ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, as well as antiquities from Cyprus and Egypt. Beliefs about the evil eye – some of the oldest in the middle East. Mesopotamian texts Dating back to 2500 BC, refers to “the evil eye”. These traditions are still preserved: the famous blue eyes – one of the most popular Souvenirs brought from Turkey. But there are also green – they probably have more ancient roots.
The first farmers were defending themselves and their crops by using green magic amulets. The importance of amulets was so great that they were made of special minerals, specially brought from afar.
The results of archaeological excavations of settlements from the Neolithic period on the territory of modern Israel was published in the journal PNAS.
Jewelry is as old as the world itself. For example, we already wrote about the oldest known artifacts, also found in the middle East – their age is estimated at up to 135 thousand years.

The megalosaur (1676), the first dinosaur found. When part of his thigh was discovered in the UK in 1676, Professor at Oxford University, took her for part of the leg of a giant. Mosasaur (1764). Bones of mosasaurs found for hundreds of years, but could not understand who they belong to. It was made by the French naturalist Georges Cuvier, he first suggested that some creatures could live for millions of years before humans.
Iguanodon (1820) was the second creature, which was given the definition of “dinosaur”. The teeth of the iguanodon were discovered by British geologist Gideon Mantell. He showed them various scientist, but they considered that the teeth belong to the fish or rhinos. Only a couple of years from the remains iguanaman saw a giant creature.
Archaeopteryx (1860-1862). In 1859 Charles Darwin published his famous book “Origin of species” which described the theory of evolution. Soon was found a perfectly preserved skeleton of Archaeopteryx, which razosanas in “missing link” between dinosaurs and birds.
