The Museum of archaeology is located in the centre of Moscow on Manezhnaya square near the Kremlin. We stopped here on the way to the exhibition of sand sculptures near the temple of Christ the Savior. The price of a ticket to the Museum of Photography 70 rubles – 150 rubles I did Not understand why the shooting is worth 2 times more expensive than the input, the more that the exposure is small. For comparison, the Photo at the Paleontology Museum would be cheaper.

According to the announcement hanging at the entrance, until September 30, the Museum is not a standard work schedule: Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 18:00, Wednesday – 11:00 to 21:00, Friday – from 11:00 to 19:00. On Monday and last Friday of each month the Museum is closed. The cashier stops working 30 minutes before closing.

In the Museum of archaeology is what was found during excavations in Moscow, mainly at its center. The key point of the exhibition is the Voskresensky bridge. It was built over the Neglinnaya river in 1601-1603. After the fire of 1812 during the reconstruction of the Kremlin and its surroundings, Neglinnaya was vaulted, and the Voskresensky bridge covered with earth. In the catacombs of Rome discovered the remains of the first Christians

More than a thousand skeletons in “elegant gowns” were found in Roman catacombs of Saint Peter and Marcellinus. Roman archaeologists from the French School and the French University of Bordeaux during the restoration works have uncovered a mass grave just outside the medieval frescoes.

Scholars date the burial was found in the first century after Christ, noting that so far such burial sites in the catacombs were not met. “This is the earliest of these mass graves”, – quotes RIA “news” words of the senior inspector of the Roman catacombs of Raffaella Giuliani. As she says, usually in the catacombs were buried two or, at most, three bodies simultaneously, but in this case we are talking about “several rooms filled with skeletons”.

According to the custom of the time, the body of noble Romans were cremated, not buried. So there is every reason to assume that the body discovered belonged to the first Christians – though noble. “The fact that skeletons dressed in expensive togas is very unusual and may indicate that the dead belonged to the upper class of Roman society,” says Professor Andrew Wallshaker (Andrew Wallace Hadrill), Director of the British School in Rome. Unique fossils age 0.5 billion years to see even the nervous system of the animal

Our planet often brings surprises to scientists. Paleontologists generally are more like hunters, and despite the fact that the quest for long-extinct animals are strictly on science, some discoveries like treasures. It is possible to tell about fossils found recently in China. Age of it — 520 million years, and the animal itself (Chengjiangocaris kunmingensis) is a relative of modern crustaceans.

Amazing is the fact that the breed was printed not only the chitin armor with all the details, but the nervous system of the animal. It’s almost unbelievable fortune, and certainly the best preserved instance of the structure of the nervous system of extinct millions of years ago animal. Usually saved only hard body parts like teeth, bones, and chitinous shells. Get mineralized tissue is extremely rare, and “colored” fossil of this type is generally unique. At the center of all fossils is a clear line of purple color, it is so-called the nerve cord (“spinal cord”). On the line visible thickening is ganglia, located between each of the pairs of legs of the animal. According to Javier Ortega-Hernandez, the head of the research team who found the fossil, these ganglia were something like a mini-brain for each of the pairs of feet of ancient crustaceans. After a detailed examination of the finds were discovered and dozens baleally auxiliary nerve endings, which were fan-shaped along the entire length of the strand. Continue reading
